Dream Theater VS Mike Portnoy from an "eagle's eye view"

Every DT fan or metal fan to say the least has his/her eyes on the current situation between DT and Mike Portnoy which is quite clearly becoming very intense and insensible. The two parties parted ways in Q3 of 2010 and since then, they have shared their equal share of “sharing the true story” with the whole world through many websites and magazines including www. blabbermouth.com which is in the forefront.

At first it was revealed that MP left the band because of the fact that he needed a “break” from the whole tour/record/practice cycle which is quite understandable as the band has been on this cycle since almost the past 20 years.

Having said so, leaving the band obviously is not the answer to anything and making such a move from a band you have been a part of was definitely not understandable at all from Mike’s side.

Therefore, it was revealed later on that the band did not want a break under any circumstance and that they wanted to move on even if MP was not a part of the band anymore.

This is the point where the fans realized that there is a lot more to this story than the media has revealed up until now and later on, it was revealed that the former band members did not even talk to each other after this whole issue and in fact, John Petrucci contacted Mike Portnoy through his lawyer which was quite harsh.

MP and JP were the best of friends and like MP said, they were more like brothers. This was the point when the guns started to change their direction and were pointed towards DT rather than MP.

MP formed his own band by the name of Adrenaline Mob by now and the band quite quickly released its first EP which was appreciated a lot by the critics and MP/DT fans.

However, it was not progressive at all and MP clearly stated that he wanted to do something new as well and this was his biggest chance. DT broke up while MP was on tour with Avenged Sevenfold and the former DT drummer clearly announced that he was not going to be a part of AS and that he was just helping the band out.

After a long period of rest, Blabbermouth.com, which is a metal news website operated by RoadRunner Records (DT’s current Record Label) released some news against MP and revealed that the former drummer had sued the band.

After this news, MP retaliated and issued his own statement claiming that he only sent a legal notice to the band claiming for his rights and royalties for his period of time with the band.

Since the band introduced Mike Mangini as their drummer after a “dramatic audition show”, the band released its first album after Portnoy’s exit on the 13th of September through RoadRunner Records.

Now the problem was that Portnoy was trying to clear this out to his fans in a very decent way after which blabbermouth.com clearly pointed the gun towards MP and shot it with completely biased news in the bands favor.

Does this mean that RoadRunner Records was using blabbermouth as a platform for defending its band? Or are they revealing the truth and portraying the true image of MP?

MP stated earlier on this year that he wanted to rejoin the band but they refused. This means that there is an inside story which as yet has not been revealed and to be honest, MP has tried his best to rejoin the band for his “fans” while the band refused.

DT’s new album was criticized a lot but still they believe that they are headed in the right direction keeping in mind that the MP and DT saga is still lingering on despite the fact that it has been almost a year since they decided to split.
This means that there are still many things left undone and we will hear about this problem from both ends in the near future as well.
